I rediscovered something special on Saturday during our exploration of Butte - record art. Gone are the days of great big record albums with amazing photos, paintings and great art. Yes, records are still made but not the same and on Saturday I started seeing records from a completely different point of view. While Krista shopped for clothes I sifted through hundreds of records admiring the care and craftsmanship that went into making such great pieces of art. I was moved by the details, compositions and emotion captured on the cover of records and I was suddenly struck by the disappointment of the "album art" feature on my ipod. I held my ipod in my left hand and the record in my right and shook my head with sadness. I was overwhelmed with the need to record some of the images and started making derived portraits of the covers. One after the other, I would pull it from the shelf, hold it in my hand and make a portrait. People walked past and curiously looked at me as if I was photographing a bear along the side of the road in Glacier National Park. No, nothing like I thought to myself. Just another an art form that should be listed on the endangered species list. I made 36 portraits that day and will continue...
